Cavelossim is located in the quieter, more couples orientated Southern Goa. It is located on a strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the mouth of the River Sal. Arriving at Dabolim airport,Goa the easiest way to Cavelossim is by taxi at a cost of about 800 Rupees. The journey takes about 30 minutes

In Cavelossim area there are 2 main beach areas, Mobor beach, which fronts the 2 large resort hotels, Leela and Holiday Inn. There are several beach shacks in front of these hotels frequented by mostly the hotels clients.

About a mile along the beach you come to a more populated area of maybe 6 or 7 beach shacks on Cavelossim beach. These front the Cavelossim village area and are frequented by the tourists staying in the hotels, apartments and villas of Cavelossim village.

Although each beach shack is different and independently owned – everyone has their favourite, several things they all have in common is their fantastic location on such a beautiful, never crowded beach and fantastic food and drink at very low cost.

Free sunbeds, parasols, books and some even offer beach towels, are available for those eating or drinking from the beach shacks.

Each shack hosts a “party night” one night a week with fireworks, traditional dance shows, fire eaters, acrobats and even a disco on the beach – lots of fun for everyone.You may also be invited to a barbecue or “seafood night.”

Within the village, away from the beach area there are many fine restaurants and bars.There are mini supermarkets, tourist shops, doctors dentists and pharmacies.

In fact many tourists come to Goa, deliberately combining a beach holiday and receiving dental care that is a fraction of the cost of Western Europe or USA.

Local highly skilled tailors and jewellers will make your design of to your exact requirements,or if you have a favourite design you have seen in a glossy magazine, they can produce that too. You do need to order early for their creation to be finished for the end of your vacation, so do not be disappointed by leaving your order to the last minute. The owners of these establishments, however, are so trustworthy that you can be assured they will send your item on if by chance it is not ready in time for your departure.

There are several reasonably priced boat excursions from the jetties located on the River Sal. You can go exotic bird watching, dolphin watching or even just a fishing trip. Often you can even keep your catch and bring it back and have it cooked for you,very cheaply in one of the local restaurants.

For those wishing to travel further afield,to the North of Goa, to the Spice Plantation or see the Elephant sanctuary, the cheapest and best way is to hire one of the local taxis for the day.The driver can tailor make a memorable trip including all the “must see” attractions.

The best time to visit Cavelossim, Goa, is between November and the end of April. These are the dry, sunny months. Outwith these months the air is much more humid and you may have heavy rain such as the Monsoon weather of June through to August.

The resort hotels offer very cheap “monsoon special offers” however facilities outside the resort hotels could be limited during this “out of season” time and the beach shacks are all dismantled.

Accommodation in the Cavelossim area ranges from the sprawling, luxurious 5 star resort hotels such as the Leela and Holiday Inn to basic bed and breakfast rooms in village guest houses.
