<img id="img-1320617971397" src="http://blog.drnemeth.com/Portals/35943/images/dental image sharing.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”dental image sharing” class=”alignRight” style=”float: right;” />November 1, 2011 — “Brightsquid” may not sound like the name of an imaging company, but this young Canadian technology firm is bringing its Web-based image and data sharing service to dentistry to facilitate online communication among dentists, dental labs, and patients by centralizing information relevant to treatment.
Brightsquid was founded in 2003 by Deepak Kaura, MD, chief of radiology at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Calgary Falculty of Medicine. It was initially intended to provide a platform for sharing and discussing medical imaging in an educational setting.
But it has since expanded into an online collaborative tool for that uses “software as service” and cloud computing to enable all caregivers to view, annotate, and comment on a patient’s treatment as it progresses, according to the company.
Brightsquid released a dental version of the service at the 2011 Chicago Midwinter Meeting, according to CEO Rohit Joshi, who joined the company in 2009 to help expand its services into dentistry.
“Dentistry is such a visual, aesthetic profession,” he said. “But we couldn’t find any tools to share this type of information online.” Read the full article here.
